Jesse Dayton Talks Music, Success, and Samantha Fish [Audio]

Kansas City's Samantha Fish and Jesse Dayton are bringing their Deathwish Blues tour to the Music At The Intersection festival in St. Louis on Sunday, September 10. Recently I had a chance to sit down with half of the duo, Jesse Dayton, and talk to him about their appearance at the festival. Yet I got a lot more. Because whoever you think Jesse Dayton is, he is so much more.

Let's talk about who he's played with. Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash. He also filled in for Billy Zoom, the guitarist for the punk band X on their 2015 summer tour. Did I mention he's also supported Social Distortion, The Supersuckers, and the aforementioned X on tour?

When you listen to Jesse's music you can pick up that he's just not a blues guy, an Outlaw Country throwback, or even just a musician. During the Covid shutdown when he couldn't perform, Dayton wrote his memoirs. He also put out a companion album featuring some interpretations of songs by his heroes and compatriots. He also wrote and directed a film that Malcolm McDowell was featured in. Not to mention his contributions to Rob Zombie's movies including fronting Captain Clegg and the Nightcreatures in Zombie's "Halloween 2". Yes, Jesse Dayton is Captain Clegg.

When not touring with Samantha Fish, which they've been doing for the past year, he's managed to produce a great new blues rock album that came out last week for Eric Johanson. Launch an album from Shinyribs on his Hardcharger record label. And I hear he's working on some new music too.

"Deathwish Blues" is a great collaboration, but nothing beats seeing them do it in person, and this is your only chance to see them perform together in Missouri this year.

Two years after his death, the former residence of influential singer-songwriter John Prine and his wife Fiona has hit the market. Located in Nashville's cozy suburb of Oak Hill, this stunning 7,272 square-foot home boasts four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, massive walk-in closets, winding staircases and a luxurious pool.
