Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports for May 7, 2024

Sunday night, Pettis County Deputies responded to the 22000 block of Dorrance Road in Pettis County, in reference to a disturbance. After an investigation, Sara Meyer* of Columbia was found to have a Pettis County warrant for her arrest. Meyer was transported to the Pettis County Jail where she was booked in on an active warrant with charges of Distribution of a Controlled Substance in a Protected Location, and Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Meyer was held on a cash or surety bond of $125,000.

Pettis County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was displaying expired license plates early Sunday morning. A passenger of the vehicle, Belinda Gayle Manion, 56, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for two warrants filed in her name. The Failure to Appear warrants were issued from the City of Sedalia on charges of Nuisance Violation. The warrants carried a total bond of $120.00. During the stop, K9 Lord was run around the vehicle for an open-air sniff to the odor of narcotics. The K9 alerted positively. A probable cause search of the vehicle led Deputies to find a crystal substance that tested positively for Methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle, Scott Manion, age unknown, was also placed under arrest. Both Belinda and Scott Manion were transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on a charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Friday night, Deputies were called to the 4200 block of West Main Street to investigate a disturbance. Officers made contact with the victim, a suspect, and a witness, who reside there together. The 911 call stated the suspect had hit the victim, breaking her glasses. At the time, she did not wish to pursue charges. The victim and the suspect were advised of the 12-hour domestic log that would be started, as well as the ex-parte process. About forty minutes later, Deputies were called back to the residence. It was reported the suspect had hit the victim again, just beside her left eye. The victim had noticeable bruising and swelling that the Deputies noted she did not have in their previous encounter. The witness stated he had watched the suspect hit the victim, and he stepped in to sperate them. The victim stated the suspect had made hand gestures to her indicating he wanted to choke her. He had also stated he would “choke the life out of her” or “beat her until she doesn’t wake up anymore.” He also threatened to kill her, have his family beat her, and threatened to burn the trailer down. He had smashed a TV screen and threw lit cigarettes at her. Clifford Wood, 63, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety**; with a condition he is to have no contact with the victim.

Monday night, Deputies were dispatched to the Pettis County Assisted Living facility, 3017 Brooking Park Boulevard. Deputies were called to investigate an assault report. An older male subject was taken to the BRHC for treatment of injuries. A male subject was arrested at the scene and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold. The male subject, who was not named in the report, was booked in on charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree (Special Victim).

*There is not a listing with these charges in Casenet for a “Sara Meyer.” If the name is differently spelled or if the suspect uses an alias in unclear. Both Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders and Major Tollie Rowe were unavailable for clarification.

** On the morning of May 6th, 2024, Wood was arraigned at the Pettis County Courthouse and denied an Own Recognizance bail, meaning his full bond stands. The court noted Wood stated he would leave Pettis County as soon as he was released and therefore was considered a flight risk. The court also noted there is a safety risk for the victim.
