An 18-wheeler filled with trash overturned on Highway 50 east of Pittsville early Thursday morning after the driver fell asleep.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 56-year-old John W. Dabbin of Higginsville was the driver of an eastbound 2016 Peterbilt on Highway 50 at NW 1251 Road just before 5 a.m., when the driver fell asleep. He then awakened and immediately overcorrected, and the vehicle came to rest in the median, spilling its contents.

Dabbin suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Western Missouri Medical Center by JCAD for treatment. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Peterbilt was totaled and towed from the scene by Jackson County Tow.
