Two men were arrested last week in Moniteau County after deputies responded to a possible burglary in progress.

A press release from the Moniteau County Sheriff's Office indicates that on early in the morning on September 28, deputies responded to a burglary report on Whippoorwill Road just east of California, MO.

The home owner reportedly arrived at his residence and noticed a strange vehicle parked nearby.

The homeowner attempted to confront the people in the vehicle, however the vehicle fled the area.

Deputies located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Two men in the vehicle, 28-year old Jacob C. Durham, of Jefferson City, and 22-year old Joshua A. Kirchner, of California, were detained while deputies went back to the residence.

Upon checking the residence, deputies reportedly discovered it had been broken into and a safe had been attempted to be pried open.

Discovered in the suspect vehicle were pry bars and bold cutters, along with other items.

Durham and Kirchner were arrested and taken to the Moniteau County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Burglary and Property Damage.

Both men were given a $75,000.00 bond.
