Ample Support of Ukraine in Sedalia Evident

Hundreds of people showed their support for Ukraine Sunday afternoon in downtown Sedalia for the first-ever Ukrainian Festival with music and fellowship, as well as food and other goods for sale.

South Ohio between 2nd and 3rd Streets were blocked off by the City of Sedalia to allow the festival to take place, which generated humanitarian aid money to be sent to Ukraine. The event was organized by the Sedalia Tabernacle Church.

Marketing and Advertising Organizer for the event Svetlana Razumovsky said she was very pleased and proud with the turnout Sunday.

“We sold out of the first batch of 1,000 tickets within the first hour. We are now on batch number two, which is another 2,000. We are amazed at what we're seeing, all the churches in Sedalia came together,” Razumovsky said, mentioning the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints and Word of Life Church in particular.

The roadway was blocked from 12 to 9 p.m., but the festival itself ran from about 2 to 6:30 p.m.

All the musical performers singing at the Furnell Pavilion came from Tabernacle Church, she noted.

When asked what the monetary goal was, Razumovsky said she expected the festival to raise over $20,000. “We are well on our way,” she said.

The United Nations this week estimated that in Ukraine, there had been 4,450 civilian casualties in the country, with 1,892 killed and 2,558 injured. The UN figures do not include military deaths, it was noted.
