A boil order for the City of California was lifted Thursday afternoon after the Department of Natural Resources confirmed all E.coli samples collected on Monday and Tuesday showed the absence of E coli and total coliform bacteria.

The boil order was issued Friday after a routine sample collected from the distribution system was “total coliform” and “E.coli” positive.

Most strains of E. coli are not harmful but are part of the healthful bacterial flora in the human gut. However, some types can cause illness in humans, including diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and sometimes vomiting.
