Boulevard Drive In Opens This Weekend

With the opening of the Boulevard Drive-In in Kansas City, Kansas this weekend, all area drive in theaters within driving distance of Sedalia and Warrensburg will be open and screening films.

This weekend the Boulevard is screening "Grease" on Friday June 5, "The Goonies" on Saturday June 6 and "The Big Lebowski" on Sunday June 7. Cost is $10 a person and gates open at 8:30PM. The Boulevard Drive-In is a cash only business.

The Boulevard is limiting capacity to 50% to help with social distancing and is asking that patrons remain in their vehicles unless they need to use the rest room. Additionally the theater's concession stand will not be operating and the playground will be closed.

The other two area drive in theaters, The Five and Drive in Moberly and the Twin in Independence are showing films nightly. Here's what's screening at these theaters this weekend:

The Twin Drive In and the Moberly Five and Drive costs $20 per car load, and their concession stands are operating. They ask patrons to purchase their car load admission on the theater website in advance.

I'm not sure with the protests and general unrest this is a great time to head into the city for a family drive in experience. And anyway, "Grease" "The Goonies" and a Harry Potter film really aren't in the category of must see films at the drive in, at least not for me. I mean really, all three have been shown on cable over and over and over for the past thirty years.

I get it though, there's family appeal and nostalgia with these films. You're not going to get that screening "Reservoir Dogs", "Pulp Fiction", "Animal House" or some horror slasher flick. All of which might motivate me to drive and hour or more for a drive in experience. The best pick of the bunch that's screening in my opinion is "The Big Lebowski" on Sunday at the Boulevard. It's a little different. Fun.
