Build Up An Appetite for Maple Syrup With The Sedalia Autism Awareness Walk
Okay guys, this event looks pretty cool. It looks like it's going to take over downtown Sedalia here in a few weeks, I'm stoked to tell you about it.
Basically this walk is for Autism Awareness, and to support local spectrum families. So what exactly IS Autism? I know we hear alot about it these days, but not a lot of us may understand it.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. It's difficult to diagnose, difficult to treat, and difficult to understand.
There are so many different types and degrees of autism. Every case is different, just like every person affected is different. We need all the research and education we can get so that every different child or adult with autism can get the treatment they need and deserve.
So if that was clear as mud, why not stop by and let the experts explain it. After the walk, there will be resource tables up until noon to tell you more about Autism and more importantly, how you can help. Or, if you're struggling yourself, there will be people that are ready to help at those same tables.
The event is on Saturday, April 22nd, and it starts and finishes in front of Wild Jade Boutiqe, 106 West 5th Street. It's not a fundraiser, it's an awareness event, so there won't be a cost to participate unless you want a t-shirt. They'll have the whole thing mapped out downtown. The run/walk starts at 8:00 a.m., the breakfast (pancakes!) starts at 9:00 a.m., and the tables I told you about are there from 9:00 a.m. to noon. So if you're stuck at work til 10 a.m., you can still come by and talk to the folks there, or show support. If you want to find out more or get registered, just visit their social media page.
And maybe you can work up an appetite to scarf down some of them pancakes. With extra syrup. And butter.
