Butch Walker just dropped his terrific seventh album, Afraid of Ghosts, last month. Now, he’s giving fans a very cool, behind-the-scenes look at its making at Ryan Adams’ Pax Am studios. Check out the Noah Abrams-directed video above.

In the clip, Walker reveals that it was quite a change of pace to relinquish production responsibilities to Adams, but he says his latest effort is better off for it.

“You have to understand, I’m somebody who’s done all my records pretty much myself,” Walker says in the video. “My day job is writing songs for other people. So when someone else just starts tearing apart my songs that I was playing right there on the spot, I was like, ‘Well, maybe that’s what I need.’"

Walker also notes that Adams – who he called “opinionated” and “passionate” -- was the right man for the job. He was also able to enlist the help of a couple key musicians: Husker Du’s Bob Mould and actor Johnny Depp. Mould appears on the Afraid of Ghosts track, “Father’s Day,” while Walker noted that Adams fondly referred to Depp as “J-Dizzle.”

Next week, Walker has a couple of gigs scheduled at this year’s SXSW. He’ll play the Dangerbird Records Showcase and Willie Nelson’s Heartbreaker Banquet on March 19. From there, he ventures on a North American tour. Take a look at a full list of dates below:
