Can You Solve The Murder Mystery At the Sedalia Moose Lodge?

Have you ever fancied yourself a detective? A super sleuth? If you have you can test your skills at the Murder Mystery at the Moose on Friday night, September 30.

Join the Sedalia Moose for "Death of a Gangster: A 1920s Mafia Marriage Murder Mystery". It's part dinner and part theater where the guests can test their detective skills while enjoying a fried chicken dinner buffet.

I've attended a few of these murder mystery dinners a few times over the years. For the most part, I've had fun at events like this, as long as I'm not forced to participate and can stay on the sidelines if I wish. This type of theater can be a lot of fun for folks who are outgoing and easily find themselves at ease with other folks playing the game.

In the early 90s, this genre of theater gained some significant popularity with "Tony N Tina's Wedding", an immersive theater experience celebrating a traditional Italian wedding, complete with obnoxious relatives. The show ran for years in New York City and Chicago, and believe it or not, got its start at The American Legion Hall on West 14th Street in Manhattan. I saw it with a radio friend in Chicago and we had a blast.

Kathy and I had a less stellar experience going to see a similar show called "Marriage Can Be Murder" in Las Vegas. At the time we saw it twenty years ago, it was being held at a place called The Steak and Egger off the strip in Las Vegas. Where there was a whole ballroom you could walk around in and 100 or more guests when I saw "Tony N Tina's Wedding", there were about 20 of us seated at one long table for "Marriage Can Be Murder" and the intimacy of the experience triggered my anxiety. Maybe I didn't give it a chance, but we split at intermission. The last time we were in Las Vegas, the show had moved to a Las Vegas hotel.

A few years ago when I was working in the Quad Cities, there was a group that regularly put on dinner theater mysteries at a local events center. I did do that as part of a radio station promotion a couple of times, and I had a lot of fun.

"Death of a Gangster: A 1920s Mafia Marriage Murder Mystery" is being held at the Sedalia Moose Lode Friday night, September 30. The fried chicken buffet will be served at 6:00 PM CDT, followed by the mystery at 7:00 PM CDT. The cost is $35 in advance, $40 at the door, and the Sedalia Moose invite guests to show up in their best 1920s costume.
