If you're a fan of fairs and festivals, this summer's been a tough one. Lot's of cancellations and not a lot of good news to report. However as we wrap up the summer there is a bit of good news. The Cole Camp Fair, which theme is "20/20 Visions" is a go.

Here's what the fair has planned for this year according to a post on their Facebook page:

  • The carnival
  • Nightly bandstand entertainment
  • Nightly parade
  • Dog show
  • Antique Tractor and Car Show
  • Parade

There are some changes and subtractions to this year's fair to help keep everyone safe. There will be no indoor exhibits, no baby show and kiddie parade. Additionally adult games and the 5K have been cancelled. There won't be chair sales for the parade, but you can still bring your own chairs if you wish.

The Children and Teen contests are pending feasibility and the queen contest is still planned.

Of course, like everything this summer the fair is monitoring the COVID-19 situation and will make further changes if necessary.

As I've outlined before, when writing about the Missouri State Fair, it's a difficult job for the people who organize and present these fairs to choose what elements of fairs and festivals can continue. What parts of fairs and festivals need to not happen right now to keep people safe. And how a fickle divided public will feel about whatever choice is made. My hat is tipped to the Cole Camp Fair organizers for navigating this crazy summer. May they have a successful fair that brings joy and happiness to all who attend.
