Coleman Named SFCC’s First Esports Coach

State Fair Community College has named Jacob Coleman as the first esports head coach in the school’s newest sport.

Coleman brings 14 years of experience in esports including competitions, hosting tournaments, and becoming a partnered Twitch.tv streamer.

“I am looking for students who are in good academic standing, have positive attitudes, and are dedicated to learning and improving their esports knowledge and ability,” said Coleman.

“A level of skill of esports will be a great asset to any student interested in the program.”
Coleman has been trained in communication, leadership, game strategies, and optimization. Coleman brings experience in the business world to his new position at SFCC, along with strong critical thinking skills and the ability to be innovative and detail oriented.

Coleman currently serves as an area manager for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Harrisonville, where he manages, motivates, and develops more than 70 associates. Coleman began his work there in June 2017.

Coleman worked as a store manager at GameStop in Lumberton, North Carolina from January 2011 to January 2013. He operated the top performing store in growth every year, was a district manager in training, and the lead store manager in the district. Coleman hired, trained, and developed new talent and team members.

From January 2009 to January 2011 Coleman served as a department manager for the Wal-Mart in Clinton, where he supervised 20 employees and operated multiple departments. Coleman managed and motivated a team.

Coleman earned an Associate Degree in Biology from State Fair Community College and a bachelor’s degree from Belleville University in Belleville, Nebraska in Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Management.

The SFCC esports program’s inaugural season will launch next fall.
