Early Friday morning around 1:30 a.m., Pettis County Deputies were alerted to a wrong-way driver.

The vehicle was later located, and the driver was found unconscious behind the wheel. The driver then woke and fled the scene, almost striking a deputy, according to the report.

A subsequent pursuit ended in Boonville on I-70 after spike strips were deployed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The driver, 27-year-old Charles Cody Edwards of Columbia, was arrested and placed on a 24-hour hold for resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and other traffic charges.

Pettis County Deputies were assisted by Saline County Deputies, Cooper County Deputies and the State Patrol.
