As Halloween gets closer and closer, perhaps a fair amount of you have picked up a pumpkin and made a jack-o-lantern out of it.  Maybe you have saved the pumpkin seeds.  But what about the actual pumpkin itself.  You know that it is a fruit right?  Albeit a large one, but it is considered a fruit.  It may not be your go-to fruit, but there are quite a lot of health benefits with this orange Halloween staple that you should know about.

Eyesight

Have any of you ever suffered from cataracts? If you want to avoid getting them, or at least decrease your risk, pumpkins are high in Vitamin A and that promote better eyesight.

Immune System

Another vitamin that pumpkins are high in would be Vitamin C, which has shown to boost your immune system.  With COVID still around, and flu season coming, why not give your body a bit of help? Couldn't hurt.

Keeps You Limber

Pumpkins are loaded with potassium.  When you don't get enough of it, you're more likely to cramp up.  It can also help you maintain a normal blood pressure.  I happen to have high blood pressure, and if eating some pumpkin with some bananas helps that, why not?

Good For Skin

Want to look a little younger? Want your skin to have a bit of a glow? Eat pumpkins.  Seriously.  Pumpkins are loaded with antioxidants that protect cells from free radicals, or unstable atoms.

Lose Weight

How many of us put on a few pounds during the pandemic?  (raises hand)   Pumpkins are full of fiber (fills you up) and lots of water.  Both of them will aid in weight loss.  They are low in calories which is also a plus.

So before you simply throw out your jack-o-lantern when Halloween is over, maybe think about trying to use the fruit for other things.  Except in a pumpkin pie (full of butter and sugar).  Now if you don't want to eat it, click HERE for my past article on how best to discard it.  Other ideas?  Share your ideas.
