Dispose of Old Prescription Medications in Warrensburg Saturday

I have an old bottle of prescription pills I have long since stopped taking sitting on my dresser. They're sitting there because I didn't know what to do with them. Well, this Saturday I'm getting rid of them. And if you have old, unused, no longer needed prescription meds, you can get rid of them Saturday too.

Saturday, April 30, is "National Take Back Day" in Johnson County, and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office will be in the Walgreens Parking Lot on Maguire in Warrensburg accepting any prescription drugs you want to get rid of from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM CDT.

Just drive up in your vehicle, give the deputies the prescription medications you no longer need, and they'll make sure they get disposed of safely and properly.

The medication I'm disposing of really doesn't pose an addiction threat to anyone. Yet if I tossed them in the garbage and someone ignorantly took them, it could really mess with their health. And throwing them down the toilet, well we've all heard how pharmaceutical residuals from the meds we take show up in water samples. Well throwing unused meds down the toilet contributes to that too.

However, I bet some of you do have some pharmaceuticals that could be addictive to someone, or attractive to someone to take. The Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the DEA say in their Facebook post talking about the Drug Takeback Day that many opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets in the home. And a lot of people who misuse prescription medication, get it from a family member or friend.

So the bottom line is, whether it's an old prescription blood pressure med, some leftover pain meds from that major dental work you had done a couple of years ago, or any other kind of pill. If it's not going to be used, get it out of your home and let the Johnson Country Sheriff's Office dispose of it for you.

This event is for prescription drugs in pill form and liquid medications and syringes will not be accepted.
