You would think that a snack like popcorn would be healthy, right? Well, sometimes it is and most of the time it isn't.

For some of us we think of popcorn as a healthy snack. It really depends on the type of popcorn you choose. If you go to the movies and get a bucket of popcorn soaked in butter, probably not.

So, once again, is popcorn healthy? If you use one particular type of popcorn it can be. According to an article on Dr. Axe, you need to buy organic popcorn kernels from a health food store. Not only do you need this particular type of popcorn, you also need to pop it in something other than your "up-in-the cupboard" vegetable oil. You should use coconut oil or an organic butter.

Here's the rest of the instruction according to Dr. Axe:

  1. Put two kernels in the pan and wait until one pops, then pour 1/3 cup of popcorn in the pan and cover it.
  2. As it pops, make sure you shake the pan to allow the steam to escape and prevent the popcorn from burning.
  3. Remove from the pan when the popping stops and season as desired. (Some great toppings include nutritional yeast, garlic powder and cayenne pepper.)

Happy popping!
