Don’t Give Your Sedalia/W’burg Mail Carrier A Tip Or Gift Card

Before you throw your hands up in the air and start ranting, keep reading!

As we get into the holiday season, a lot of us think about our local mail carriers, both in town and rural, and the great job they do for us. Of course we appreciate them braving the elements and making sure we receive our mail on a timely basis.

If you've thought of leaving your carrier a cash tip or a gift card, better rethink that generous thought.

They're not allowed to accept it.

According to the US Postal Service, mail carriers aren't allowed to accept cash, gift cards, checks, or any other cash equivalent.

Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount.

So leave the box of chocolates or a warm scarf that you knitted but remember the value of the gift cannot exceed $20.00.
