The City of Sedalia issued the following statement on Wednesday following a recent spate of house fires:

Unfortunately, four Sedalia families have been displaced from their homes due
to recent fires. We understand these families did not have adequate or even any insurance and have essentially lost everything.

As Sedalia has always been known for, our community has rallied around these families, asking about ways they can help.

Therefore, effectively immediately, our City’s Finance Department has established a Fire Relief Fund for those who would like to donate gift cards or money to help these families get through this tragedy. Funds may be dropped off at the Municipal Building, Fire Headquarters or the Water Department’s night depository.

The addresses are as follows:

Municipal Building, 200 S. Osage Avenue, Sedalia, Missouri 65301
Fire Headquarters, 2606 W. 16th Street, Sedalia, Missouri 65301
Sedalia Water Department, 111 W. 4th Street, Sedalia, Missouri 65301

Please note that these donations may be tax deductible, so the Finance Department can provide documentation for you if you desire. They can be reached at (660) 827-3000.

Some of these displaced family members are pets! If you or someone you know would consider fostering these pets until their families are back on their feet, we ask that you please drop by the Sedalia Animal Shelter or call them at (660) 826-5816. We will have you fill out a foster application in order to help keep these fur-babies comfortable until they return to their permanent homes.

The statement came after an early morning house fire that occurred at 412 North Grand around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Smoke detectors are available through the Sedalia Fire Department.
