A fire weather watch is in effect for Pettis County and the surrounding area until 6:00 Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued the watch, as winds may gust to 45 mph.

Humidity in the area is low, and fires can develop and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is discouraged and cigarette butts need to be extinguished in a proper receptacle.

The counties under the fire weather watch include, Pettis, Johnson, Henry, Lafayette, Bates, Buchanan, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Jackson, Platte, and Ray.
