Former State Fair Community College men’s basketball player, Damaria Franklin made his season debut for the Division I Memphis Tigers on Monday.

The Tigers (8-3) came close to upsetting Alabama (9-1) by a score of 88-91. Alabama is ranked 4th in the country.

Franklin finished the game with eight points and six rebounds in 18 minutes of play. Franklin is a 6’ 3,” 200-pound guard from Chicago, Illinois, who spent two years at State Fair Community College from 2018-2020.

“I am not at all surprised to see Damaria doing well at the next level,” said SFCC Head Coach Matt Brown. “He was a great young man to coach and did the same kind of things for us, and I am certain he will continue to do for Memphis.”

During his sophomore season at SFCC, Franklin started 28 of 30 games and recorded 220 of 509 field goals (43.2 percent), 589 points, 205 rebounds, 100 assists, 58 steals, and 15 blocks.

As a freshman, Franklin scored 137 of 293 field goals (46.8 percent) for 373 points, 111 rebounds, 63 assists, 35 steals, and 11 blocks.

Roadrunners fans will have another chance to see Franklin and the Memphis Tigers host the Texas A&M Aggies at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17.
