Four people died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning in Cass County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a southbound 2000 Peterbilt, driven by 59-year-old Everett E. Ashley of Lowry City, was on Missouri 7 at Route Z at 10:30 a.m., when it traveled down an embankment and into the northbound lanes of Missouri 7 in Garden City.

The front of the truck struck the passenger side of a northbound 2015 Nissan, driven by Stephen W. Bennett of Junction City, Kan.

Both vehicles traveled into the median, struck a guardrail, where the Peterbilt overturned.

The Nissan came to rest in the southbound lanes.

Ashley, along with Nissan passengers Gerald R. Dittman, 68, and Jean M. Pariseau, 71, were pronounced dead at 10:50 a.m. by Garden City Firefighter Mark Lopez.

Bennett was pronounced dead at 12:09 p.m. at Cass County Regional Medical Center by Dr. Chris Beever.

All were wearing their seat belt, except Ashley, according to the report.

29-year-old Dakota M. Engel of Junction City, Kan., was transported by Life Flight to Research Medical Center with serious injuries.

Both vehicles were totaled.

Cass County Deputies, Garden City Police, Archie Police and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted the 15 MSHP Troopers on scene.
