At 7:10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Johnson County Fire Protection District (JCFPD) was dispatched reference multiple reports of a tanker rollover on 13 Highway at the north roundabout of North 13 Highway and the North Business 13 Highway intersection.

Personnel arrived and located a semi with a fuel tanker on its side within the roundabout. The tanker was loaded with an estimated 8,000 gallons of fuel, which was actively leaking from the tank, according to a JCFPD facebook post.

MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the closure of the roadway to all traffic. Don’s Truck Towing from Sedalia responded to assist in up-righting the tanker.

Kansas City Fire Department’s hazardous materials unit (HazMat 71) and Missouri Department of Natural Resources responded to assist with containing the spilled fuel.

All spilled contents were contained to the area. A private HazMat mitigation later arrived to begin removing the hazards from the scene.

JCFPD personnel cleared the incident at 11:37 a.m.
