I know a lot of people around here in our area really are quite kind hearted.

I mean, don't get it twisted. I know there are a fair share of people out there who are only interested in them getting theirs and forget everyone else...but those are the loud minority. There are so many of us who want to help our fellow Sedalians and do so by donating a little extra time at church or dropping off extra stuff at the little food pantries or by paying for someone's order behind us at the fast food line.

And I'm sure you might be thinking that you'd like to help where you can, but don't know where to start. Or, if funding is tight at home and you Can't give money, how can you help with your time? And how do you find the right group for you? The group that is working to solve a problem you see is necessary, does just the right amount of meetings or fundraisers, and doesn't ask that you make it a full time job?

It can be overwhelming, sure. And you might be someone who is just starting out with stuff like this, and has wanted to volunteer, but don't know where to start, or who needs help. WELL. I have the event for you.

I'm sure also there are tons of caring, smaller civil groups out there that want to make a difference. The problem is, you can only reach so many people to get the word out about your meetings or fundraisers, right? You need more members. You need to get in front of people who have time and the want to help. You don't wanna bug people or harass them, you want to find the people who are looking to help, right? You want people who can roll up their sleeves and pitch in! WELL. Believe it or not, I have the event for you.

The Sedalia Young Professionals is putting on a Community Engagement Fair. Different charity groups like, CASA, Open Door, SFCC Dental Hygiene Program will be there, among others. If you're looking for a new way to volunteer in the area, you can come by the event and see how you can help. And if you have a group that wants to get out there in front of people and recruit new members, it's absolutely free for you to sign up to do so. The only thing you have to do is sign up, and you don't even have to bring your own table and chairs. Well, you'll need to bring your materials, you know... whatever you're gonna use to talk to people, like your flyers or your sign up sheets. That's it! The only thing is, you gotta sign up before February 17th. But since I'm telling you now, you have a few weeks to present it to your group and figure out who can man the table. Just email Baylee at baylee.garrison@centralbank.net.

The event will be February 21st, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Yeater Lobby of the State Fair Community College. Now is your time to get volunteering!

Voluntarily yours,
Behka
