When I was a younger kid, I was fortunate to be able to read younger than most of my classmates.  As a 2nd grader, I was asked to go and read stories to the 1st grade classrooms.  We had a reading challenge, in which you were able to earn coupons for ice cream cones.  I read a lot.  This challenge put forth by Patrick Mahomes would be right up my alley.

Any football fan will tell you that quarterback is the most important position on the field, and they need to really read a playbook.  Patrick is looking for some reading superstars of his own. He is asking students to join his team of Superstar Readers through his 15 and the Mahomies Foundation.

Now if you have a young reader at home, how many books do you think they could read in 15 weeks?  Patrick wants kids to sign up for his Read For 15.  Click HERE to sign up.  The site also has tips for adults, parents, and teachers to encourage students to reach their goals and promote reading habits.

The idea is to encourage kids to read as much as possible, instead of spending time playing video games and watching TV.  Increase the reading levels of kids, certainly can prove to be a big asset to kids.

Mahomes promises he will make the effort worthwhile for everyone who meets the reading challenge. “If you can do this, you will have some cool prizes throughout the program, so don’t give up. Go Chiefs,” Mahomes said.

This is the third year for the challenge through the Lead to Read KC organization. More than 15,000 students have taken the challenge and increased their reading skills to date.  Get your kids signed up.  This is a wonderful idea from Patrick.  Encouraging more kids to read can't be a bad thing.
