How Did Kansas City Chiefs Do In NFL Draft? Meet The Draftees

The NFL Draft has come to a close. A time where we all follow our favorite football team, and see how they are replenishing their team, with younger players, try and fill holes that need an upgrade, etc. This year was no different. Our Kansas City Chiefs had quite a lot of draft picks and they put them to good use. The Chiefs entered this draft with four primary needs — cornerback, defensive end, wide receiver and safety. They traded up to take as their first choice...

For the first time since 2015, the Kansas City Chiefs used a first-round pick in the NFL Draft on a defensive player. He should help with pass defense. The defense needed to improve, as we saw them give up too many points that the offense was not able to overcome. Good start.

Needed help on the defensive line. They get a 2-time, 2nd team All Big-Ten edge pass rusher. He could be a starter for the upcoming season.

We let go of Tyreek Hill, so there certainly was a need at WR. Mahomes has to throw to someone. An extremely efficient catcher of the football, Moore had just three drops on 125 targets during the 2021 season. He also accounted for 26 broken tackles after the catch last year, tied for the most among FBS wide receivers.

More help for the defense. Cook is going to play closer to the line of scrimmage in Kansas City because he’s one of the most sure-tacklers in this draft class. We let Tyrann Matthieu leave, so this fills a need as well.

The team still lacked a strongside linebacker, who also has the ability to slot in at MIKE linebacker in case of an injury. More help for the defense.

We are now into the 4th round and more help on defense. The Chiefs had a big presence at the HBCU combine, the HBCU Legacy Bowl and made it a point to really dive into these prospects this year. They were able to see Williams at both the Senior Bowl and 2022 NFL Scouting Combine as well. He is tall too. 6'3"

Got to protect the QB and the offensive line gets some depth and help here. Kinnard is just a massive human being, listed at 6-5 and over 320 pounds with 35-inch arms. He’s really good at using his frame, length and strength to get movement in the running game.

Watson (6-2, 197 pounds) is a long press cornerback from the PAC-12. With Washington State in 2021, Watson recorded 31 total tackles, two interceptions, three passes defended and four fumble recoveries.

Running back hasn't become as important in today's NFL, but you still need one who can handle the tough yards and move the chains. Pacheco (5-10, 210 pounds) is a heck of an athlete, posting a 4.36s 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine. In 2021, he posted 167 carries for 647 yards and five touchdowns in 12 starts. He’s known for having a bit of a unique running style, a bit reminiscent of LeSean McCoy.

As a senior in 2021, Johnson posted 67 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and five passes defended.
