If you're planning on doing anything other than Watching the Kansas City Chiefs play in the Super Bowl late Sunday Afternoon, you might want to check with whatever business your plans include to make sure they're going to be open.

The 15 Queen's Price Chopper stores in the Kansas City area are closing early so their employees can watch the Super Bowl with their families. And Union Station says that Science City, The Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium, Genghis Khan, and the Extreme Screen Theater will all be closing at 4:00PM Sunday.

While I haven't heard of any Sedalia or Warrensburg stores closing early for the Super Bowl, it wouldn't surprise me if they did. This is huge. Regardless of the teams playing many football fans, and not football fans, still enjoy the spectacle that is Super Bowl. With the Chiefs being there, it's just that much bigger.

There's something special about watching our team play for the ultimate championship with our family and friends. It's memories we may only get one chance or maybe two chances to experience. So take them when you can get them. If I had a teenager at home, I'd rather the boss close wherever they're working early, so they could be at home or with friends watching their team play vs. sitting in a business, that may not be getting a lot customers while the game is on.

All this said, let's face it, if you don't like football there will be plenty of places still open to do what you need to do. I'm sure movie theaters will still be open. So will most pharmacies and grocery stores and nothing closes Walmart. I'm thinking it's the more mom and pop local businesses that will close. And fear not, even if you're skipping the Big Game in favor of the Puppy Bowl... I guarantee you you'll be able to order that pizza or grab those wings while cheering for your favorite puppy.

If you've got a local business that will be adjusting your Sunday hours for the Super Bowl, let me know at rob.creighton@townsquaremedia.com. We'll put a little list together and put it out there for folks as we head into the weekend.
