J.K. Rowling hit back at former Harry Potter fans on Twitter when they denounced the British author after she publicly opposed Donald Trump's discriminatory immigration ban, which targets citizens and refugees from seven Muslim-majority countries and bars them from entering the United States.

Shortly after Rowling made clear her position against Trump's unconstitutional order, one former reader tweeted her, writing, "glad I caught this article on yahoo. I will now burn your books and movies too."

Unperturbed by the reaction, Rowling offered the former fan encouragement, writing, "Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I've still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter."

Rowling later responded to another user who offered her a similar sentiment, telling the Casual Vacancy author, “just burned all my Harry Potter books after being a fan for 17 years. The Phil. Stone was one of the first book I EVER read. I’m upset it has to be that way.. You embarrassed me, disgusted me, and I will never read your work again #ThankyouFor17Years."

Rowling quickly pointed out the irony in that statement, noting, "Guess it's true what they say: you can lead a girl to books about the rise and fall of an autocrat, but you still can't make her think."

Before she signed off, however, the Silkworm author let fans know the negative tweets were mere outliers, and she was touched by the overwhelming support she received from the majority of users:
