The Johnson County Food Center is critically low on basic supplies like canned vegitables like corn and green beans and other staples like pasta and pasta sauce. This according to the Daily-Star Journal.

In June the food pantry served 500 families including 282 children and 174 senior citizens. Johnson County first responders have stepped up and are holding a food drive to help the food center out. The first responders held one last Friday, and once again will be collecting food an monetary donations for the food center this Friday, July 18.

According to the Warrensburg Police Department's Facebook page their drive on Friday raised $400 and a truck bed full of food.

If you missed it and you still want to donate, Johnson County First Responders will be back out at the Warrensburg BiLo this Friday from 1:00PM - 3:00PM CDT accepting donations.

The newspaper also says donations can be dropped off at the Johnson County Food Center, 137 E. Culton, from 1:00PM-4:00PM CDT Tuesdays and Thursdays and 9:00AM - 11:00AM Saturdays. Monetary donations may be sent to The Food Center, P.O. Box 872, Warrensburg, MO 64093.

If you're looking to donate they are looking for: canned corn, canned green beans, assorted canned vegitables, as well as pasta, pasta sauce and other main dish meals. Additionaly they also need personal hygine items like toilet paper, deoderant, dental care products and adult diapers. In other words, non perishable food items as well as those hygine items we take for granted.

Dig deep and give to the Johnson County Food Center. You might be helping your neighbor, a co-worker, your child's friend. Many who are food insecure are working, they do have a place to live, they're just not making enough to pay the rent, keep the lights on, pay for prescriptions, and feed their families. That's hard enough without being hungry.
