How many times have you been driving around west-central Missouri when all of a sudden you look up into the sky and you think you see something moving? Then you getter a better glimpse of the object and you realize it's the B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber.

I know I will be driving down 50 Highway between Warrensburg and Sedalia when out of nowhere one appears.  I'm straining my neck to get into a position where I can see the wonder in the sky. You feel like you're a kid at a Christmas parade with everyone around you being taller and you're doing everything you can just to get into a position to see Santa Claus. It's that special.

In an article from nationalinterest.org, they wrote this headline for the article-"You're Dead: Why Nothing Can Stop the B-2 Stealth Bomber." The reason for this headline is that the B-2 Stealth Bomber is built and designed to evade radar. It's a radar-absorbent coating that make this possible.

Here's some dimensions of the bomber that you may not realize:

  • The wings are half a football field, 52 meters across
  • In an assessment of the aircraft by the United States Air Force, two B-2s armed with precision weaponry can do the role of 75 conventional aircraft.
  •  It's capable of all-altitude attack missions up to 50,000 ft

In an article from airforce-technology.com, it had this to say about the aircraft:

With a range of more than 6,000nm unrefuelled and over 10,000nm with one refuelling, giving it the ability to fly to any point in the world within hours.

So the next time you see one of these wonders in the sky, take note. You are seeing something spectacular that some across the country will never see up close.
