Lady Roadrunners Beat MAC In Final Seconds

The State Fair Community College (SFCC) Lady Roadrunners made it four victories in a row to open the season.

SFCC defeated Mineral Area College 3-2 at the Fred E. Davis Sports Complex on Sunday, Sept. 5.

SFCC scored the opening goal of the match off a penalty kick from freshman forward Ally Woolery with 17:17 remaining in the opening half. Mineral Area tied the match with nine minutes remaining to tie the match.

Freshman forward Carly Roberts gave the Lady Roadrunners the advantage with a goal, three minutes into the second half off a pass from sophomore defender Natalie Clarke. Mineral Area tied the contest with under 19 minutes left in the match, with a well-placed shot in the lower left corner of the goal.

The Lady Roadrunners (4-0) scored the game-winning goal off a long run from freshman forward Sabra Moon, with about 20 seconds remaining. Moon placed a shot into the back of the net with an assist from freshman midfielder Natalie Muela.

Freshman goalkeepers Savannah Romero and Maddi Bradbury both saw time in the net for SFCC. Romero made five saves. Bradbury made one save.

"We had to face some adversity," said Lady Roadrunners Soccer Head Coach Jaime Beltran. "We had some errors in the back line that definitely need to be fixed that led to the two Mineral Area goals. We responded well. We executed the game plan exactly the way we drew it up."

SFCC is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division II Women's Soccer Rankings.
