Legendary Kansas City Chiefs Hall Of Famer Len Dawson Is In Hospice Care

In the history of the Kansas City Chiefs football team, there have been some legendary players.  Many of them such as linebacker Derrick Thomas, who was taken from us all too soon, do not have a Super Bowl ring on their finger.  Only two Chiefs QB's have led our team to the Super Bowl. They are Patrick Mahomes and Len Dawson.  That's the list.

Legendary quarterback Len Dawson, who led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl triumph and was with the Kansas City NFL organization for six decades as a player and broadcaster, has entered hospice care in Kansas City.

Len Dawson became the Chiefs QB in 1962 and was with the team until he retired in 1975.  His HOF Coach Hank Stram was not only his coach with the Chiefs, but knew Len from his time at Purdue.  The Chiefs won three AFL championships, played in Super Bowl I and captured the Super Bowl IV title. Dawson was selected as the Super Bowl IV Most Valuable Player in the Chiefs’ victory over the Minnesota Vikings. He’s still the franchise leader in touchdown passes and passing yards. No doubt Mahomes could break these records if he stays healthy.

We also know Len as a broadcaster as well as a player.  In 1978 Len joined the cast of HBO's show Inside The NFL and was their co-host for 24 years.  Dawson also worked in the Chiefs’ radio booth as an analyst from 1984-2017.

Dawson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1987, and in 2012 he won the Hall of Fame’s Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award.
