On Monday Sept. 28, Pettis County deputies investigated damage to the Statue of Liberty replica statue on the west corner lawn of the Pettis County Courthouse.

The statue was found laying on its side near the pedestal. The statue had sustained damaged during a thunderstorm that passed through the area on Sunday.

An inspection of the scene showed that the statue was not physically anchored to the pedestal, and it appeared that wood had been used to stabilize the statue, and the wood had rotted away.

Surveillance footage confirmed the damage occurred during the storm.
