Missouri Is Number One for Potholes

Missouri has a lot of potholes. And according to KMBC, citing a study from Autowise.com, Missouri ranks first when it comes to pothole complaints. Kansas ranked eighth and Nebraska fourth according to the study. The auto website came up with it's results based on geotagged Twitter data.

It makes sense to me that many midwest states would rank high on the list. We get the winter weather that requires plows to scrape the streets numerous times a year. We deal with the freeze and thaw cycles where water getting under the pavement freezes and thaws multiple times a year. Then on top of it we dump salt on to the streets to keep them freezing. That doesn't happen in states where it snows so infrequently that they don't have plows and salt spreaders. Or even in places where it doesn't snow at all.

The top 10 states complaining most about potholes are:

2. Vermont
3. South Dakota
4. Nebraska
5. Massachusetts
6. Connecticut
7. Rhode Island
8. Kansas
9. New Jersey
10. West Virginia

I'm surprised Michigan didn't make the top ten. I've lived a lot of places over the years and the state with the worst roads and potholes I've lived in: Michigan. The roads were so bad I had to buy new tires soon after we left. And from what I hear from friends still there, it's not much better.

In Missouri, at least in the Sedalia and Warrensburg area, overall I think the roads are OK. Yeah, there's more potholes as we go through the winter months, but it's not anything unexpected. Except for that pothole in our parking lot at the radio station. Watch out for that one. It'll eat your car.
