Do you remember several months or ago, when many of us had lottery fever?  If you may have forgotten, the Mega-Millions jackpot has risen to just over 1.3 billion dollars.  It was the 3rd highest jackpot in the history of the lottery.  Many of us bought a ticket or multiple tickets for that very slim chance to win that money.  Can't win if you don't play right?

So that winning ticket that was sold in Des Plains, Illinois and it has now been claimed.  So people have started to speculate on what would happen if a ticket does not get claimed? Perhaps the State of Missouri is rooting for that.  I will explain why.

For the record, the winner has 1 year to claim it.  Perhaps they are getting all of their duck in a row, taking care of all of their legal stuff, and making sure they will be as safe as possible.

As for those of us who bought a ticket in Missouri?  Don’t expect a refund if you bought a ticket (or maybe more than one). A re-drawing won’t happen.  Instead, if the Powerball jackpot which is now over 600 Million ever goes unclaimed, the 45 states (as well as Washington, D.C.) that participated in the Powerball game will get back the funds their state contributed to the pot.

Missouri is one of the states that would take the funds and may be using them to support their public schools.  Which would be a nice idea.  Several other states will do different things.  You can click HERE for more info.

For what it's worth, I hope the winner of this amazing jackpot does a balance of taking care of their family, giving to charity and their churches, and spending their funds frivolously! But I bet the state of Missouri is hoping it goes unclaimed.
