If you're planning on getting outside in Missouri for a break and for some fresh air, outdoor facilities are still available for use. Indoor facilities are another thing.

February 28 is the date that the Missouri Department of Natural Resources had designated as the last day that indoor spaces would remain closed. Those indoor facilities include the following:

  • Visitors Centers
  • Nature Centers
  • Museums
  • Offices

As a note the Missouri DNR says this includes Missouri state park and historic site indoor spaces.

This means if you're getting cabin fever and wanting to venture into the open air, outdoor spaces and amenities will be open. That includes the following:

  • Day-Use Areas
  • Lodging
  • Campgrounds
  • Boat Ramps
  • Trails

These areas will remain open and available under normal offseason status, unless otherwise designated.

As safety is very important in and around Missouri parks, you should check the online park and status map before ventures. As always contact information of park staff is posted on signage in the parks. Information is posted for visitors for any question and/or assistance.

According to Missouri State Parks Director Mike Sutherland:

“We hope that our state parks will serve as a break from the stress associated with COVID-19 and provide healthy recreation opportunities during the winter offseason.”

If you're looking to camp in one of Missouri's parks, a reminder that staying in campgrounds is on a first-come, first-served basis. You may want to check because some Missouri campgrounds offer reservations during the off-season.

If you have any questions, contact Missouri State Parks at moparks@dnr.mo.gov. For the latest information on the Missouri State Parks response to COVID-19, you can visit mostateparks.com/response.
