Many major sports leagues and college conferences cancelled or suspended their seasons based on the latest developments and spread of the coronavirus.

The Missouri Tigers basketball season came to an end when the Southeastern Conference was one of many college conferences to cancel tournaments and games in light of the spread of the coronavirus.

"We understand that this decision will be disappointing to our student-athletes and coaches who have been preparing all season to compete in this event as well as viewers at home," said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. "While this was not an easy decision, the health and well-being of our entire SEC community is of paramount importance."

The SEC said regular season champion University of Kentucky would receive the conference's bid to the NCAA Tournament. However, the NCAA cancelled March Madness and all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships.

Major League Baseball cancelled the remainder of spring training games and delayed the beginning of the regular season by at least two weeks due to the national emergency created by the coronavirus pandemic. The league will continue to monitor the situation and evaluate what steps to take next as it evolves.

“Players are of course disappointed they won’t be able to compete on the field,” Major League Baseball Players Association executive director Tony Clark said in a statement. "At the same time, they recognize the importance of public health and safety.”

Major League Baseball's decision followed decisions by the National Hockey League, Major League Soccer and National Basketball Association.
