MoDOT will limit road construction during Labor Day weekend to accommodate holiday travel.

MoDOT says that work on most construction projects that would impact travel lanes will stop at noon Friday, August 30 and resume Tuesday morning at 9:00, September 3.

Lane and bridge closures already in place around the state will remain during the holiday and subsequent weekend. MoDOT urges motorists to stay alert for sudden closures due to emergency situations and flooding.

“Rain is in the forecast for parts of the state this weekend and flooding is still a possibility,” said MoDOT State Maintenance Director Natalie Roark. “Road conditions can change in an instant. Always be alert when driving and remember, Buckle Up Phone Down.”

Even with limited work zones, MoDOT reminds drivers to use caution when traveling. Be alert and obey all posted speed limits. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, all available troopers will be patrolling Missouri’s roadways, enforcing speed-limit, seat-belt and impaired-driving laws, in addition to being available to assist motorists.

Some good news is that gas prices for Labor Day trips may be the cheapest they've been in three years. According to AAA, today’s average is already nearly a quarter cheaper than last year’s holiday and 4 cents cheaper than 2017’s Labor Day.

In Missouri, 11 people died and 470 were injured in 1,048 traffic crashes over the 2018 Labor Day holiday. Troopers arrested 113 people for driving while intoxicated.
