The Missouri State Highway Patrol will host serial number verification stations at various locations at Lake of the Ozarks for the upcoming boating season.

Members of the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Unit and troopers stationed at the Lake of the Ozarks will perform verifications starting Friday, May 12th. The verifications are scheduled to be conducted every other Friday throughout the summer from 9-10 a.m., but according to the press release, troopers will be available after that time, if needed.  Boaters can bring their watercraft on a trailer or by water, and may use the courtesy dock near the boat launch ramp at Public Beach #2.

This service is provided for boaters who are required by the Missouri Department of Revenue to have the vehicle identification number(s) of their boat, motor, or trailer inspected before application for title or registration can be made. There is no cost for the service. The inspections are generally confined to purchases of non-titled vessels from out-of-state, or titles that contain errors. Boaters must bring proof of ownership, such as a bill of sale, along with the item to be inspected.

The MSHP is reminding everyone that Missouri law requires all motorized vessels, sailboats over 12 feet long, and gasoline powered outboard motors to be titled within 60 days of purchase and registered with the state prior to use on state waters.
