You always like to be recognized but this is one time I don't think health officials in the Show-Me State would like to see their state at the top of the list. According to a New York Times analysis, Missouri has the highest rate of new COVID-19 cases in the United States.

It seems like things were getting under control with the number of cases but new reports, especially in two counties in the state, shows the numbers are up. The two counties, Livingston and Linn, were in a story from the Kansas City Star and the Times showing the two counties have the highest rates of COVID-19 infection in the country.

While most states were seeing a decrease in the number of new cases, the figures were up in Missouri.

While many in Missouri still don't believe the vaccinations are necessary, I personally heard of a situation that happened in the past week that increased the number of new cases due a number of participants not being vaccinated while at a wedding.  There was an individual/s that had the virus and subsequently, many wound up with symptoms a few days afterwards.

In the story from kansascity.com:

Missouri counties account for 13 of the top 25 counties in the U.S. with the highest rate of new cases.

The New York Times article also mentions that although the United States average fully-vaccinated rate is at 45%, Missouri's percentage is much lower at 38%. The story goes on to say as of June 16, the rate of vaccination across the U.S. has dropped to around a million doses a day whereas at it's peak in mid-April, it was more than 3.3 million doses a day.
