New E-mail Vaccine Scam Targeting Older Adults in Missouri

It seems as if we're always seeing some type of communication, either by e-mail or through social media, that is nothing more than attempt to gather information that could cause us problems down the road.

It's amazing to me how quickly scammers come out of the woodwork to take advantage us, especially seniors. Now that I fall into that "senior" category I guess I should pay special attention!

According to a news release from The Missouri SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol), a new COVID-19 vaccine e-mail scam is out there. If you're a senior you know that if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So, if you receive an e-mail asking you to complete a survey and if you do, you'll receive a reward for a nominal fee (to help with shipping costs, of course), hit the spam button.

The sad thing about this e-mail is there are many unsuspecting, trusting seniors that will be drawn into this email for the opportunity to not only help by sharing information but also will participate to take advantage of the free reward. Many older adults think it's legitimate so they'll take off down the rabbit hole.

It amazes how much time and effort people will use to come up with these scams instead of using their time for something good...like a job, volunteering, and/or helping others.

The Missouri SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) reminds not only seniors but anyone that receives correspondence like this to not to give out personal or financial information.
