New Fridge Helps Sedalia Pantry Offer More Fresh Food

Salvation Army Sedalia will be able to offer more fresh food for their food pantry clients now that they have a new three door refrigerator bought with a Capacity Building Grant from The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri.

The Food Bank gave the Salvation Army Sedalia a grant for $4,738 to help provide hunger-relief to Pettis County families. The Salvation Army Sedalia purchased a three door commercial cooler with the grant money. This grant is in addition to the food The Food Bank provides to Salvation Army Sedalia for local distribution. This according to a release from Salvation Army Sedalia.

Magen Hudsen, Service Center Coordinator, says:

The more space that we have to store fresh food, the more we are able to take in and in turn give out to those who really need it in the community. This came at the perfect time as we have seen our monthly numbers almost triple since COVID-19.

The grant is only a small part of $179,000 in Capacity Building Grants that The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is providing to 23 agencies in 13 counties. The funding was made possible by Feeding America and is designated to increase the ability of local agencies to help people facing food insecurity.

The Salvation Army Sedalia Food Pantry operates every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST and is open to all Pettis Country residents who can use the extra help. The Salvation Army Sedalia Service Center is located at 1200 E. Broadway.

The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is a regional disaster and hunger relief network that distributes around 30 million pounds of food annualy to partners across 32 county service area. They are a member of Feeding America.
