It really is a tale of two teams that is making the NFL consider flexing the Chiefs / Bears game on Sunday December 22 out of the Sunday night prime time spotlight.

For the Chiefs, it's almost like penalty for having a 9-4 record and wrapping up the AFC West title early. For the Bears they bring a 7-6 record record into this week's action and depending how they do, along with the Vikings and Rams, they could find themselves out of playoff contention by the time they take on the Chiefs.

And there's no way the NFL is going to have a team going to the playoffs, play against a team heading to the showers and cleaning out lockers after their least game of the season on a Sunday night in prime time.

Back when the schedule was made, this looked like it could be a great game. Two teams destined for the playoffs. With two young quarterbacks. A real fight on the field. It hasn't worked out that way. While the Chiefs Kingdom has crowned Patrick Mahomes as their prince, Bears fans are cursing team management for passing on Mahomes and going with Mitch Trubisky.

Of course, if the Bears beat their hated rivals the Packers this weekend and somehow are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. There may be a narrative there that makes the Chiefs / Bears match up at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday Night December 22 compelling enough to leave it alone.

The NFL will make their decision after the outcome of Sunday's games according to the Chicago Sun Times.
