Nucor Steel makes a lot of news in West Central Missouri. Observing from the sidelines, if you're anything like me, you wonder when will the building will stop and the steel production start. Well wonder no more, State Department of Economic Development (DED) Director Rob Dixon told Missourinet steel production will start on December 27 or December 28.

Nucor, the anchor of our new rail industrial park is a game changer for Sedalia. Steelworkers there, on average will make $65,000 a year. And the plant will have a workforce of 250.

Now that Nucor will start pumping out rebar in December I'm getting excited to see what other industires the rail industrial park will bring to Sedalia. I lived in the Joliet, Illinois area when the CenterPoint Intermodal Center was built in Elwood of Interstate 55. It was a game changer for economic development in the south suburbs of Chicago and led both the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe to build complexs in the area.

I'm not sure a rail industrial park in Sedalia will have as big an impact as the intermodal center in Joliet has. Probably not. However, I think it's a good bet to help Sedalia grow.
