Pettis County to Purchase K-9 Unit

Pettis County has procured money through the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund, or LERF, to purchase a K-9 from Kilo 2 Working Dog Kennels in Decaturville, Tennessee.

Pettis County Sheriff Brad Anders made the announcement through a press released dated Jan. 29.

Anders said the charge for a K-9 was led by Pettis County Prosecutor Phillip K. Sawyer after a brief discussion about the need for such a valuable tool within the Pettis County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Anders said the purchase of a K-9 would take place within the week, along with the purchase of requisite equipment, such as vehicle kennel, eco-control kit, and door popper.

Dep. Jimmy Moore was selected as the handler for the new K-9 unit.

“Deputy Moore is an active and thorough law enforcement officer who will undoubtedly do well with this assignment,” Anders said in the press release.

“Further, the Pettis County Sheriff's Office will be seeking funds for a second K-9 within the next 12 months,” he noted. “This will add additional coverage and allow for down time for what will likely be a very busy time for Deputy Moore.”

Anders also noted that “the Pettis County LERF Board voted unanimously to allocate funds for the purchase, thereby recognizing the tremendous asset a K-9 unit brings to the citizens of Pettis County.”
