Republican Sawyer Fends Off Democratic Challenger Kempton

In the only contested race in Pettis County, incumbent Republican Phillip Sawyer held off Democratic challenger Sam Kempton for Pettis County Prosecuting Attorney on Tuesday.

According to figures provided by Pettis County Election Authority Nick La Strada, Sawer garnered 65.67 percent, or 8519 votes, while Kempton secured 34.33 percent, or 4,454 votes.

A total of 130 people attended a watch party for Sawyer at the Sedalia Country Club Tuesday evening.

Turnout for this midterm election in Pettis County was 49.85 percent with a total of 13,289 votes cast, according to La Strada.

Statewide, Republican Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt beat Democratic challenger Trudy Busch Valentine for US Senator.

Schmitt got 1,143,626 votes, while Valentine got 868,873. This was the seat vacated by retiring Sen. Roy Blunt. The 20 candidates who filed after Blunt's announcement was former Gov. Eric Greitens, who resigned in June of 2018 amid allegations of sexual assault and campaign finance impropriety.

Republican Missouri Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick ran for Missouri State Auditor and won last night with 59.42 percent, or 1,216,046 votes, beating Democratic challenger Alan Green, who got 37.554 percent, or 768,500 votes.

Republican candidate for US Representative District 4 Mark Alford beat Democratic candidate Jack Truman with 71.301 percent, or 181,013 votes. Truman received 66,698 votes.

State Sen. Sandy Crawford, R-Buffalo, ran unopposed in the 28th District and won with 54,979 votes.

Republican incumbent Bradley Pollitt held off Democratic challenger Rene Vance for State Representative in District 52. Pollitt got 75.135 percent, or 7,805 votes, to Vance's 2,583 votes.

In District 57, Republican incumbent Rodger Reedy beat Democratic challenger William Truman Wayne with 83.595 percent, or 10,706 votes. Wayne received 2,101 votes.

Constitutional Amendment 1 failed with 1,061,253 yes votes to 894,056 yes votes.

Constitutional Amendment 3 succeeded with 1,089,326 votes to 961,909 no votes.

Constitutional Amendment 4 succeeded with 1,265,938 yes votes, to 735,835 no votes.

Constitutional Amendment 5 succeeded with 1,193,908 yes votes to 788,184 no votes.

A Constitutional Convention question on the ballot failed, with 1,324,937 no votes to 632,200 yes votes.
