Roy Orbison's life is being adapted for the big screen. Authorized by the Orbison Estate, The Big O: Roy Orbison is in the works and slated for release in 2018.

The Big O will detail Orbison's life's ups and downs; in a press release, the singer's son, Alex Orbison, says that his father's story "has an undeniably cinematic quality to it."

"My dad's story is a fantastic journey. He was so inspiring as a person because, after everything had been through, good and bad, he still had a positive outlook on life and was kind and wonderful," the younger Orbison continues. "This movie will mirror a Roy Orbison song: having triumph and tragedy, sometimes losing the girl and sometimes getting the girl, and ending on a high note."

Marty Katz is producing The Big O, alongside Alex Orbison and Roy Orbison Jr. Chuck Fleckenstein, Ron Moore and Wesley Orbison will be executive producers, and Ray Gideon and Bruce Evans are writing the script. They will create their screenplay based on information and stories that Alex and Roy Jr. provided; Alex Orbison calls the pair "extraordinarily capable."

On Oct. 28, a new collection of Orbison's hits is set for release. Compiled under the guidance of his sons, Roy Orbison: The Ultimate Collection, culls 26 tracks from throughout Orbison’s career onto one CD (with a double-LP set also available).
