Smith-Cotton High School senior Arthur Sims has accepted an athletic scholarship to shoot trap, skeet and sporting clays for State Fair Community College in Sedalia.

Sims, the son of Freda and Art Sims, has participated in track and field, wrestling and power lifting at Smith-Cotton.

“I have used trap shooting as a personal hobby,” Sims said. “My father and I have shot at different locations as a family activity. As a competitive person, I am excited about my next chapter in shooting sports."

SFCC Shooting Sports Head Coach Sarah Manuel said, “This is an emerging sport that has a following in the surrounding county school districts but is not currently offered (at Smith-Cotton). Arthur has participated in many shooting events at the Rod and
Gun Club and other gun club association through his high school years."

Manuel said Sims is very coachable and open to learning the various shooting disciplines. The SFCC team will compete with a variety of club teams across Missouri and on the ACUI circuit, which includes tournaments in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Kentucky and Tennessee.
