Sacred Heart baseball hosted a three-team, round-robin-style event this past weekend playing both St. Paul’s and Lincoln in a doubleheader, which they split 1-1.

Sacred Heart played St. Paul’s tough in the first game but would fall 5-11. After tying the game at four in the fifth inning, the Saints would score three in the 6th and four in the 7th innings to put the game out of reach. Carter Rice and Traven Wheeler each had two hits in the game.

Sacred Heart would rebound from the loss with a win over Lincoln 16-6 after six innings. Alex Karigan threw all six innings in the win. He allowed only two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and only one walk on the day. Tanner Damlo, Carter Rice, and Caden Crooker supplied the bulk of the gremlin’s offense in the game accumulating eight of the team’s ten hits and 11 of the teams 15 RBIs. Damlo also hit his third home run of the season.

With the split, Sacred Heart moves to an 11-5 (9-3 in conf.) record and will continue its season today when hosting Sweet Springs with Malta Bend at 4:30 pm at Centennial Park.


 

And the Sacred Heart baseball beat Leeton on the road, 4-2. Tanner Damlo got things started for Sacred Heart’s offense with his 2nd home run in as many games to make it 1-0 and led the way offensively with three hits on the day. Gavin Caldwell started the game on the mound for the gremlins and allowed only two runs on only two hits with eight strikeouts. Caldwell also tied the game with an RBI double in the 5th inning to even the score at two.

Connor Rice got the win in relief for Sacred Heart throwing 3.1 innings with four strikeouts. Rice also hit a go-ahead double in the 6th inning to make the score 4-2. Carter Rice and Caden Crooker also had hits for Sacred Heart who ended up with 9 hits total.
