Sacred Heart opened their season Tuesday night at the Sedalia Middle School Pool.

With only three swimmers, a small team left a big impression, according to head coach Ms. Michelle Steger.

The dual meet was hosted by Sacred Heart's sister school, Smith-Cotton, and participating teams included Warrensburg, Hickman, Rockbridge, Battle, Father Tolton, Smith-Cotton and Sacred Heart.

Junior Arly Ponce had a strong showing in both the 200 Freestyle and the 100 backstroke.  Arly placed 5th out of 10 in the 200 free, and  7th out of 18 in the 100 backstroke.

Sophomore Kate Carney had an impressive 4th place finish out of 10 in the longest race of the night, the 500 yard freestyle.  The race takes endurance and stamina, and Kate had both Tuesday night, Steger said.

Freshman Camille Schear, who comes to the Sacred Heart team by co-op from Cole Camp, took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke finishing 1st out of 21 swimmers. Camille also showed her speed in the 100 butterfly, placing 2nd out of 9.

Sacred Heart's next swim meet will be the Winnetonka Invitational this Saturday.
