Sacred Heart varsity volleyball faced off against the Santa Fe Lady Chiefs (from Alma) in the Class 1, District 13 final match Thursday evening at home.

Sacred Heart lost three heartbreaking sets to Santa Fe 22-25, 18-25, and 15-25.

“Our blocking was much better tonight, but we struggled on defense getting the ball to the setter, which in turn makes it difficult to execute an offense.  In the first set, Sacred Heart was down 12-20 and battled back to 19-22, got to 22-23 and just made some unforced errors to lose.  Second set, Sacred Heart started off strong and took a 5-0 lead and kept the advantage until Santa Fe crept back into the lead at 10-11.  In the third set, Sacred Heart could not put enough pressure on Santa Fe and never had the advantage,” commented Head Coach Marlo Siron.

“A huge thank you to all the parents, teachers, and Gremlin fans that listened and showed up to cheer.  A second place finish in Class 1 District 13 is not what we wanted, but during this very strange, Covid-19 season, we will take it.  Santa Fe played better tonight and we wish them good luck in Sectionals,” Coach Siron said.

The Sacred Heart Varsity ends their season 20-8-1.
